United States: “Army of God,” far-right anti-migrant convoy arrives at the border with Mexico
As a law on immigration is being negotiated in Washington, the standoff between Texas authorities and the Biden administration continues to play out in the small town of Eagle Pass. This demonstrates that the state of Texas can do what the federal government is responsible for and has the equipment to do so. “Joe Biden: it’s your turn now!,” exclaimed Greg Abbott.
According to Democratic officials in the Eagle Pass region, the governors’ visit is just a simple PR operation. They believe that the decrease in border crossings is actually due to Mexican authorities launching operations to reduce the flow of migrants. The arrival of the governors coincides with the convoy of over a hundred vehicles from a self-proclaimed “army of God” that descended on a ranch 30 minutes from Eagle Pass.
The organizers of this convoy, called “Take Back Our Border,” were expecting tens of thousands of people. In reality, there were only 200 to 300. “I can tell you that it’s not as terrible as I thought,” explains Misty.
Meanwhile, residents of Eagle Pass have gathered in opposition to the arrival of radical groups in their city, which until now had been without problems, and insist that they do not feel safe in their city for the first time. This weekend, a border patrol center would have been evacuated of asylum seekers after receiving threats of arson from members of the far-right convoy.
