AFCON 2024: DRC dictates its law to Guinea and advances to the semi-finals
In Abidjan, the Leopards were initially trailing against Guinea before making a comeback and coming out on top (3-1) on Friday, February 2. The Congolese now await the Ivory Coast or Mali in the next round. The turning point of the match came with a foul by Chancel Mbemba in the 17th minute, resulting in a penalty for Guinea, which they converted to take the lead.
However, the Leopards quickly equalized thanks to a powerful strike by Mbemba. The game continued with Silas Katompa earning a penalty, which was calmly converted into a goal by Yoane Wissa. The match concluded with a direct free-kick goal by Arthur Masuaku, securing the victory for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This win marks the first time the DRC has reached the semifinals of the African Cup of Nations since 2015. The team and coach Desabre are in sync, and they are ready to face the winner of the quarter-final match between Mali and Ivory Coast.
